God wants to remind us who we are to Him
God wants to remind us who we are to Him. 1 Peter 2:9 tells us that we are a chosen people, royal priests, a holy nation, God’s own possession. These are the titles of someone that God cherishes! This is how God views us, His children, whether we are having a good or bad day. Jesus took the sins of the world on His shoulders on the cross, and with His resurrection, cast those sins as far as the east is from the west. We can start each morning basking in the beauty of being His children.
God wants to destroy the doubt, fear, and insecurity we have in ourselves
God wants to destroy the doubt, fear, and insecurity we have in ourselves. 1 Peter 2:9 also tells us that God called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. This darkness—doubt, fear, insecurity, and any other form it takes—is what Jesus rescued us from. This isn’t to say that it won’t rear its ugly head, but this is to say that by arming ourselves with the full armor of God at the start of each day that we can get a jump-start on it. We can be prepared for it, and fight it with His help!
God wants us to bless others
God wants us to bless others. Starting the day with God is not just for ourselves though; it is much more than just for us! There is another very interesting part of 1 Peter 2:9; Peter tells us that because God cherishes us and because He called us out of this darkness into light that we now have a sacred calling: to show others the goodness of God. Isn’t that beautiful? Starting the day with God is not just so that we can have a day surrounded with His presence. It is so we can also show others that same goodness that has revolutionized our own lives.
Why start your day with God summary:
This is why we should start every day with God. Like I have said, there are some days where our mind and emotions get the best of us, and it is for those days that the grace of God gets us through. Let’s make a habit of applying these 3 things to our lives each morning. If we do these 3 things marked out in 1 Peter 2:9, we will be way more prepared for anything that comes our way. God wants to spend the day with us and that beautiful day in His light starts with us inviting Him in before we get started. Let’s pray this together—“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9 NLT). Amen. Now go start your day!
